The Satellite High Scho0l Wind Ensemble is headed to perform at the Southern Division College Band Directors National Association Conference on February 24. Chosen for the second year, Satellite has an aggressive program of music featuring Masque by Kenneth Hesketh; Symphony #2 by Frank Ticheli; Marsch from Konzertmusic Op. 41 by Paul Hindemith; Joseph Turrin’s Hemispheres, Robert Schumann’s Symphony #3, and Elsa’s Procession to the Cathedral by Richard Wagner. Good luck to all the musicians in Wind Ensemble — we know everyone will remember that Satellite was there. It’s very exciting that Noel Turner - former Satellite Instrumental Music member — is now in Hollywood to continue his adventure on American Idol. FLORIDA TODAY shared the news today - read it here> Posted in Fun Stuff | No Comments » 492 Runners take part in 2009 Turkey Trot - Satellite Drumline a Hit!November 27th, 2009On Thanksgiving morning, Cocoa Beach was a buzz with 492 runners lined up for the annual Turkey Trot. SIMPPA parents and students showed up at 5:30 am to set up for the crowd and when the race began at 7:30 the Satellite Marching Band Drumline sent them off in style! Turkey Trot teams were creative giving their 12 pound turkeys a ride on a skateboard, or caught in a trap, or even a ride in a stroller! As the runners came to the finish line the Drumline played them through…the crowd loved it too! We don’t know yet what money was raised by the event, but with nearly 100 more runners than last year, we expect it to be a nice profit for the program. Thanks to the parents that helped make or purchase food for the refreshments, and came out to help set up and work the event. Thanks students for your commitment to getting up to be there and help set up/clean up. Thanks Casey Dodd and the Drumline as well as Mr. Nelson and Mr. Sunderland for supporting the event.
Watch the Video and see the drumline! Scan forward to about 6:20 to see the skateboard team in action. A stellar performance at the 2009 District Marching Band Festival. This year Satellite was up third at 4 pm so that the students could get back for homecoming festivities. And what a performance! The musicality and sound was fabulous, the solos right on, the costumes looked terrific, the Scorpionettes, and what about those props! The King & I never sounded so good. Sitting in the stands people all around me were talking about how great it was. Good job to everyone on a super Districts this year….Pictures and videos coming soon!
