The Satellite High Scho0l Wind Ensemble is headed to perform at the Southern Division College Band Directors National Association Conference on February 24. Chosen for the second year, Satellite has an aggressive program of music featuring Masque by Kenneth Hesketh; Symphony #2 by Frank Ticheli; Marsch from Konzertmusic Op. 41 by Paul Hindemith; Joseph Turrin’s Hemispheres, Robert Schumann’s Symphony #3, and Elsa’s Procession to the Cathedral by Richard Wagner. Good luck to all the musicians in Wind Ensemble — we know everyone will remember that Satellite was there. Each year the Space Coast Art Festival in Cocoa Beach — one of the area’s largest and most respected events — kicks off on Thanksgiving morning with the Turkey Trot 5K Race. The Satellite High Instrumental Music Program manages the Turkey Trot 5K to raise money for the music program to fund expenses no longer covered in school budgets such as buses, uniforms, music, competition fees and more.
Participants in the race also receive goody bags, door prizes, post-race refreshments, and music courtesy of Satellite High Music students. Next February, the Satellite Wind Ensemble will be one of just five ensembles selected to perform on the campus of the University of Mississippi as part of the 2010 Southern Division National Band Association/College Band Directors Conference. Many consider the concert hall one of the finest in the southeast. Congrats once again to the fabulous student musicians at Satellite!
